Troop 284 has a long standing tradition of sending crews to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Over 12 days, crews hike across the desert. The days are long and hot, the terrain is rough, and they'll reach an elevation of over 12,000 feet. Unforgettable experiences include riding horses or burros, range & target activities, rock climbing, blacksmithing, visiting the National Scouting Museum and more.

In 2023, Troop 284 sent its first crews to Sea Base in Florida. Over the winter break, crews sailed through the Florida Keys. In the bright sunny days, they navigated to islands and through coral reefs. The evening brought star filled skies and an astronomy lesson that could not be missed. They learned how to operate a sail boat, ocean fishing, snorkel, and more.

In 2025, Troop 284 sent its first crews to Northern Tier in Minnesota. Over the winter break, crews trekked the frozen wilderness. Faced with the coldest days of the year, they built igloos for shelter and performed the boot dance to generate warmth. Unique experiences include dog sledding, ice fishing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and more.
